There’s a magic to Asheville that may change with the seasons but never varies in its strength and if you are sitting at your laptop right now, contemplating a vacation in Asheville in the year 2026, you may be wondering when would be the perfect time to visit. The authentic answer to that question may not help you make your decision, because Asheville deserves to be explored in all its seasons, but rest assured, we at Mighty Tree Properties want you to have the vacation you have always dreamed of, and we think we have come up with a way to make your decision easier. Below, our guide to planning your 2026 vacation highlights all the seasons, giving you an idea of the weather, the different events that happen, and all the amazing ways you can enjoy a vacation in Asheville, enabling you to narrow down your choices to one perfect journey in the season that makes you happiest!
A Winter Wonderland
The winter months of January, February, and most of March, offer a unique vacation experience that may excite your interest, especially when you realize that January and February are our low tourist season, and crowds will be smaller, lines will be shorter, and the ability to rent your dream Mighty Tree Properties seasonal escape will be easier as there is far less competition. Prices during the off season can be lower as well, enabling travelers to order that fancy bottle of wine at dinner or maybe save for an extra vacation later in the year.
Visitors at this time of year will find a magical winter wonderland as snow blankets the landscape and temperatures that can drop below freezing at night encourage extra snuggling with their favorite traveling companions. These are our coldest months of the year, so of course, your suitcase may be a little heavier than normal as we recommend sweaters and sweatshirts, winter hats, gloves, and coats (you can wear your coat on the plane and use it as a pillow if you start getting too warm).

Special Winter Events or Festivals
Although there aren’t a lot of events that take place in January and February, this is the best time for a foodie vacation, especially as Asheville Restaurant Week occurs over two weeks, January 20-26 and February 17-23. This event is truly one of our favorites as we travel from restaurant to restaurant, eager to see what the talented chefs have in store for us with their prix fixe menus and innovative creations. Offering everything from desserts to tapas, the list of participating restaurants and their special menus will continue to grow larger as we get nearer to the big weeks.
What to Do in Asheville in the Colder Months
Although it will be cold here in the mountains, it never gets as cold as it can up north, so outdoor activities are still popular, including hiking along our trails or taking a little road trip to snow tube in nearby Hendersonville. When it does get a little too chilly or if the snow is falling, there are plenty of things you can do inside, such as exploring the shops in the Grove Arcade or, and this is our favorite winter activity, exploring the stunning interiors of the Biltmore Estate. If you happen to be visiting through New Year’s Eve, you will have one last chance to explore their holiday displays before the lights are dimmed and the candles are snuffed out on their evening candlelit tours. These wonderful extras close for the season on January 4th.
A Spring in Your Step in Spring
Spring can be the most beautiful time of year to visit, and although there may be some crowded weeks (Spring Break is a popular time to visit), it will not be anywhere near as busy as during our high tourist season months. The low prices and ready availability of winter continue into the early months of spring and the quiet days and serene nights will bring you joy.
The weather starts to warm up, but the rains do not fall as often as you would think because this is not our rainy season. Daylight highs may reach as high as 82 degrees in June, but you will still want to pack a jacket as night times are cool, sometimes cold, with generally a 20-degree drop in temperature. Packing can be a little tricky with the vast degree of difference between day and night temperatures, so we suggest tee shirts, long sleeved shirts, or other clothing that can be layered under jackets, and just like for winter visitors, the jackets can be used as a pillow on the plane, freeing up room in your suitcase.

Spring Events and Festivals
As the mercury rises, the list of Asheville special events and festivals grows longer, we are just so happy to feel the warmth of the sun on our faces! April is when our Downtown After 5 concert series begins again, taking place on the third Friday of the month and offering live music, a marketplace of local artisans, and food and drink vendors serving the best of North Carolina foods and beverages.
The lush landscape of Asheville is definitely a sight to be seen, and at the Biltmore Estate starting in April, the Biltmore Blooms event will remind you that it is imperative that you stop and smell the roses. Also offering a new evening event called Luminere, an outdoor light and sound show starting in March, the estate truly celebrates the season.
What to Do in Asheville Now That It Is Warming Up
As the temperatures rise in Asheville in the spring, you may find yourself wanting to be outdoors as much as possible, but we do hope that you take the time for a road trip along the Blue Ridge Parkway, as the wildflowers will take your breath away. There are plenty of spots to pull over along the way, so be sure to have your camera on hand and you will discover that it is almost impossible to take a bad picture of the mountain landscape during wildflower season. The River Arts District, an artist colony that lies along the French Broad River, has shown an amazing resiliency, bouncing back after the catastrophic effects of Hurricane Helene in 2024, and we encourage you to explore the beautiful works of art housed in the colorful and quirky buildings that make up the district.

Summer Days, Summer Nights
As the calendar pages turn to reveal a new season, one filled with joy, fun, and of course, higher temperatures, you will discover that the vibe of Asheville becomes a little more energized as tourist season switches into high gear. This does not mean you won’t enjoy your stay in our Western North Carolina town, nor does it mean that your adventures will be crazy; it just means there will be more people around and more festivals and special events to engage in.
The temperatures will rise, but as we are a mountain town, it rarely gets too hot, and even though summer is the heart of rainy season, we know you will enjoy every moment of your stay. Pack light, tees, shorts, sandals, but remember a rain jacket and maybe a button up sweater as it can still get cool at night. Hikers will, of course, want to pack their best hiking shoes or boots, and because of the rain and the distinct variation in temperatures throughout the day, if your hiking clothes are breathable and moisture wicking, you will be more comfortable.
Summer Events and Festivals
The Love, Shine, Play Yoga Festival will take place over four days in July, July 23 through July 26, to be exact, and we promise that even if you aren’t a dedicated yogi, you will want to participate in this worthy event. Offering music, fun, and a connection between you and your new yoga friends, one that will remain unbroken, especially if you return for 2027’s event, this event above all, reflects the vibe and genuine appeal of Asheville. Looking for something different? The Land of the Sky (LOTS) Burlesque Festival, July 10 through July 12th, offers three days of comedy, talent, and fun, while celebrating and embracing diversity.

Summer Fun for the Whole Family
Whether you decide to go tubing down the French Broad River with Zen Tubing, explore the wildlife that reside at the Western North Carolina Nature Center, or simply hang out at home swimming, soaking in hot tubs, or relaxing by our pools, your summer vacation in Asheville will be an all-American dream come true. Hiking, biking, shopping, and dining out at some of the best restaurants in town are all summer adventures that you will remember forever and wish that you could continue forever more.
Falling for Fall
Before we go any further, we must tell you that it will be impossible not to fall in love with Asheville in the fall. The vibrant colors of trees adorned in their autumn attire, the temperatures that range from warm in the early part of fall to chilly in the later, and the sheer joy you feel as you spend more time in our homes, relaxing and filling your energy banks as you are officially in the height of the end of the year holiday season. We are, of course, counting December as a fall month—it doesn’t turn to winter until nearly the end—and as you pack your flannels, your hiking boots, and a few Christmas presents that you bought for your kids at home, (You can do much more shopping here!) your fall getaway to North Carolina may be the one that hits the hardest in all the best ways. September is another low tourist season, as the majority of the world will be stepping back into real life, and temperatures will range between the high 60s early in the fall, with lows dropping to the low 30s in the later days of the season.

‘Tis the Season for Festivals and Events
We’re not going to lie to you. Fall, especially because of the many holidays, is loaded with special events and fun festivals, and there is no way we will be able to cover them all. Some of our favorites, however, include the LEAF Golden Arts Festival (generally occurring the third weekend in October), the Craft Fair of the Southern Highlands (mid-October), and every one of our holiday festivals and events! Christmas at the Biltmore is a much loved event, as is the drive through light show that takes place at Lake Julian in nearby Arden, but we can assure you that whatever event you decide to attend, you will be happy and excited to join in the fun.
